Landmark Member, Legacy and Life Donor Outing

  • 84 4th Street Ashland, OR 97520 (map)

Please RSVP by Sunday, September 12.

Note our NEW Proof of Vaccination or Negative COVID Test policy for this event. Read details here.

On Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 from 9 a.m. or 12 p.m. (with the option of one of two timeslots), SOLC Landmark Members, Legacy and Life Donors are invited to be honored and to explore a very special newly conserved 159-acre property in Eagle Point. Members who give $500 or more each year, as well as those who are conservation easement donors or have included SOLC in their estate plans, have the opportunity to tour the land and learn more about this unique property. The loop trail hike is about 1.1 mile over rolling hills with a cumulative elevation change of about 240 ft., both up and down. If you are not able to hike, you are welcome to hang out with Executive Director Steve Wise for a bit chatting about the land and current projects.

THE PROPERTY: Recently donated by conservation minded landowner Sandy Pearson, the conservation easement protects an amazing mosaic of oak woodlands, forests, meadows with native bunchgrasses, and chaparral situated among rolling hills. Kanutchan Creek, a tributary of Little Butte Creek, is a seasonal stream which flows through the property with streamside vegetation. Several walking paths wind through the meadows and oak savanna, past two ponds, and over the hills. At high points, there are great views of Mt. McLoughlin and surrounding landscapes. In September, 2020, portions of the property were burned by the South Obenchain Fire. Staff will lead hikes to observe the effects of the fire, and discuss fire ecology and regeneration of native ecosystems that provide important habitat.

In order to accommodate limited onsite parking and social distancing safety, we are offering two different event timeslots.

Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 options:

  • 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., Introduction to land, breakfast, and hike – 30 registrations split into two hikes

  • 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., Introduction to land, lunch, and hike – 30 registrations split into two hikes

For everyone’s care and safety, SOLC is implementing a Proof of Vaccination or Negative COVID Test requirement for participation. We will only accept official test results from a certified clinic and the test must be taken within 36 hours of the event. All participants will be required to wear masks and maintain a 6’ distance when interacting with individuals outside their household group and when not actively eating or drinking. In addition, we will observe all state-mandated COVID precautions. Email us or call us at 541-482-3069 for more information or visit our COVID-19 Policy online for this event.

Because of limited capacity, we encourage Landmark and Life donors to register early for the start time of their choice. The RSVP deadline is Sunday, Sept. 12. We will send a confirmation email with directions to those who RSVP. Call us at 541-482-3069 or email us if you have any questions or need assistance.

If you are interested in becoming a Landmark Member or need to check your membership status, contact Kelly Gonzales 541-482-3069, ext. 104 or email Kelly for more information.
