For people. For nature. Forever.
Join us for our 2022 Annual All Member Picnic. We're excited to celebrate our 44th anniversary with you! Activities, food, fun, hikes—come meet new friends, relax by the river, and explore the magnificent Rogue River Preserve!
Lunch is on us! * Please be sure to bring your own reusable plates and utensils.
Choice of guided hikes and activities: options will include a hike to the fairy forest, a bird walk with friends from the Klamath Bird Observatory, an exploration of beetles of the Preserve, a pollinator and habitat restoration tour with the staff from The Understory Initiative, and more. Groups will be divided up at the event.
2022 Conservation Award: Join us as we honor Lanita Witt and Suzanne Willow, the owners of Willow-Witt Ranch and founders of The Crest at Willow-Witt. They have redeveloped and restored their 445 acre working ranch, serving as a model for agrotourism to accomplish their conservation goals, providing wholesome food for the community, and hosting a community-based wetland restoration effort that now hosts Western Pond Turtles and other wildlife. More recently they have created an educational non-profit, The Crest at Willow-Witt, providing summer education programs for children as well as an Outdoor School venue for 5th and 6th graders in the Rogue Valley. They also host The Forest Conservation Burial Ground, offering the community a green or natural burial option. All of this while both being longtime and respected members of the medical community.
2022 Volunteer of the Year Award: Linda Kappen has volunteered with SOLC for over eight years: conducting butterfly surveys on properties such as Rogue River Preserve, Pompadour Bluff, and Williams Creek Reserve; leading annual butterfly community walks; and regularly pulling noxious weeds and old fences at community work parties. She is a leader in butterfly conservation, education, and research in SW Oregon. She is a self taught lepidopterist and writes a monthly column for the Applegator about butterflies and moths. She continues to volunteer in the greater community conducting butterfly surveys, leading a local monarch tagging research project, presenting butterfly talks, and sharing her knowledge with youth.
RSVP by Monday, Sept. 26th. We hope to see you there! Directions to the Rogue River Preserve will be emailed upon registrations.
