Next month, the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy is collaborating with local artist, Sarah F. Burns, to provide a Plein Air Sketching and Painting Session during June Open Lands Day at the Rogue River Preserve.
Working as an observation-based painter through European tradition, Sarah has been painting timeless subjects for nearly two decades that include figures, still life, and landscapes while exploring her personal and cultural history. Just like Sarah preserves the truth and beauty of each of her subjects in her paintings, Sarah's paintings are physically able to stand the test of time using proven traditional methods and techniques.
Sarah's most recent creative endeavor is her Artist's Guide to Clouds. As most of us would agree, one of the best things about being outside is watching the clouds. After spending countless hours both observing and researching, Sarah created a guide that outlines the ten main cloud types. While the guide is very much designed for artists, anyone who wants to learn more about clouds will love it. As Sarah describes, it takes practice to learn all of them, but keep at it. Knowing about all of the clouds will help with painting them and make sky watching extra fun. Beware though... Once the word gets out that you're a cloud nerd, then all of your friends will begin sending you photos of clouds that they want you to identify!
