Curious about using plants to dye fibers? Interested in supporting healthy local ecosystems? Join Southern Oregon Land Conservancy for a two-part workshop: Dyeing to Eradicate Invasive Species! Part 1 of the workshop will take place on a conserved private property near Pilot Rock, where we will take a hike guided by an expert botanist, learn to identify Dyer’s woad, and then pull out as much of this invasive species as we can. This haul of woad will come in handy a few days later for Part 2 of the workshop, when we use the woad to dye yarn or linen a beautiful light blue. Attendees will have their hand-dyed hank of DK weight yarn (~225 yds) or two yards of lightweight linen fabric shipped to them after the class.

When and Where: (read carefully)

Part 1 (hike & plant collection): Thursday, May 18, 3:00-7:00 pm; meet at the Rite-Aid parking lot in Ashland, 2341 Ashland St, Ashland

Part 2 (dyeing): Sunday, May 21, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm; Southern Oregon Land Conservancy office at 84 Fourth St, Ashland

Cost: $30 workshop fee 

PLUS: 

$12 for yarn OR $30 for linen

Due to the variable nature of fibers, we will not be dyeing any fabrics or yarn brought from home. We are offering appropriate materials for this project at cost.

As much as we love our furry friends at SOLC, pets are not allowed. SOLC does make exceptions for ADA service animals. Companion animals, however, are not allowed.
