Opt Out of the Black Friday trend and instead, consider giving back and lending a hand for our beautiful wildlife at the Rogue River Preserve!
Assist with the removal of a farm and barbed wire fence to make way for a wildlife-friendly perimeter fence. The Rogue River Preserve features two miles of riverfront along the Rogue River, a large floodplain forest, and oak woodlands with meadows.
At two recent work parties at Rogue River Preserve, we removed 1000 ft. of farm fence. In one study, 5 miles of barbed wire fencing killed 2 elk/deer each year, and woven fences are more dangerous to wildlife. During one of the work parties, we found a deer that died in the farm fence - we did not have a chance to save this animal, but hope to reduce harm in the future.
Please wear sturdy pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and close-toed shoes. We highly recommend that you are up-to-date on your tetanus shots. Also plan on bringing water, snacks, and extra layers. If you have them, bring eye protection, gloves, and fence tools. We will provide these items as well as some tasty snacks.
