This event is now full! Save the date for our next Open Lands Day at the Rogue River Preserve, Saturday, April 22, and sign up for our eNews to find out when registration opens.
Bundle up and start the New Year with a peaceful visit to the beautiful Rogue River Preserve near Eagle Point. The Preserve includes two miles of Rogue River-front, a large floodplain forest, and oak woodlands with meadows, and is open to the public only during events like Open Lands Days, work parties, and for youth education programs, so take advantage of this special opportunity! Explore the trails at your own pace, attend a guided hike, bring a picnic lunch or thermos of tea to enjoy by the river, or do all three. Waterproof shoes and warm layers are highly recommended.
To limit crowding on the trails, registration is free and required for the hike or self-guided exploration for the day. Guided hike participants are welcome to explore the property before or after their hike slot.
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Self-Guided Exploration - check out field guides, binoculars and other gear from our lending library, and chat with docents stationed along the trail to learn more as you explore.
11 :00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Hey Bud: Guided Winter Plant Walk, 1.5 mile or less -- meet your plant neighbors in their winter garb: learn how to identify buds, twigs and stalks and use hints like plant shape, bark and cones to identify trees, shrubs, and forbs. We will briefly delve into lichen ID too. Led by Kristi Mergenthaler, botanist and SOLC Stewardship Director.
As much as we love our furry friends at SOLC, pets are not allowed. SOLC does make exceptions for ADA service animals. Companion animals, however, are not allowed.
If you have questions about the day, contact Tara Laidlaw at 541-482-3069 Ext 113 or email her.
