Looking for a fun, safe, outdoor event? Want to explore the Rogue River Preserve, a haven for biodiversity alongside the Rogue River? Curious about the work SOLC is doing to protect land, water, and wildlife habitat on the valley floor? Join us and our partners from SOU's Environmental Education Masters program for our next Open Lands Day at the Rogue River Preserve on Saturday, June 12!

To limit crowding on the trails, we require pre-registration for specific time slots:

- self-guided explorations start at 9:00 am, 11:00 am, and 1:00 pm; check out field guides, binoculars, and other gear from our lending library, and chat with docents and masters students along the trail to learn as you explore

- guided hikes start at 8:00 am (birds, led by SOU Environmental Education grad student Nolan Richard) and 12:00 noon (plants, led by SOLC docent Liz Landreth)

For everyone's safety, current CDC and Oregon COVID-19 safety guidelines will be observed..

8 a.m. Bird Hike: Early June mornings in the Rogue Valley are brimming with bird activity. Join Nolan, SOU grad student and bird enthusiast, on a peaceful walk that focuses on learning and listening to bird songs and calls. The riparian woodlands of the Rogue River are home to nesting warblers, vireos, grosbeaks, and many other songbirds that we might get lucky enough to see, but will very likely hear!

12 p.m. Plant Walk: Take a stroll through the Rogue River Preserve with a botanical eye with Master Naturalist Liz Landreth. We'll talk about why the property is so unique and how the different habitats offer a rich source of botanical delights. Be prepared to use all your senses as you learn about the plants, shrubs and trees that grace the land.

If you have questions about the day, contact Tara Laidlaw at 541-482-3069 Ext 111 or email her at tara@landconserve.org.

As much as we love our furry friends at SOLC, pets are not allowed. SOLC does make exceptions for ADA service animals. Companion animals, however, are not allowed.
