Driving History Tour of Upper Bear Creek Valley

REGISTRATION will open on May 13 at 6am.

Jeff LaLande, archeologist and local historian, will lead an evening driving tour of Upper Bear Creek Valley. Stops include Hill-Dunn Cemetery on Emigrant Lake, Mountain House, and Hugh Barron Ranch on Old Pacific/Old Siskiyou Highway. He will talk about the history of native inhabitants and early whites in the area. Topics covered will include the lives of the earliest native residents, followed by wagon-train emigrants on the Applegate Trail of the 1840’s, settlement by whites in the 1850’s, and later development of Emigrant Lake and Old Siskiyou Highway, formally known as Pacific Highway.
